About

ABOUT SENSORY TAEKWON-DO

Sensory Tae-Kwon-Do is a unique Therapeutic Martial Arts program for children on the spectrum, or with behavioral and/or learning disabilities. It is a breakthrough doctor supervised martial arts program custom-designed around each child's neurological requirements and needs. The core of this program is extracted from cutting-edge neurological studies that incorporate movement exercise to help create healthier pathways in the brain. Therapeutic mind-body activities stimulate the brain improving balance, muscle strength, coordination, self-awareness, executive functions, and working memory. We call this the bottom-up foundation approach and has proven far more successful in accelerating development. We've discovered that our technique also benefits siblings and neurotypical children.

This is not an adaptive special needs martial arts program!  IT''s WAY MORE! and WAY MORE FUN!!

Children today can be conflicted with a wide range of physical and neurological symptoms.   Effective treatment and/or remediation requires a whole brain, whole-body approach. We achieve this by incorporating a diverse one-to-one or small group therapeutic martial arts settings, body work, biomedical interventions, interactive metronome. and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Sensory Taekwondo enriched dojo is designed to improve sensory processing while training.  For example, we provide therapeutic auditory processing background music while training.  All children can have one or more sensory processing delays growing up. We provide a multitude of therapeutics modified to martial arts interventions for improved consciousness, sensory processing and neurological connectivity weaknesses.

Coach Jarrod

NASM certified personal trainer

Specialization in Corrective-exercise and Strength and Conditioning

5 years of special needs teaching | 10+ years of PAL Boxing | 7 years of Muay Thai
2 years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu |
2 years of Taekwondo

Growing up in a household with three brothers, the oldest of whom was born with congenital rubella syndrome, was not always easy. Coach Jarrod and his other two brothers helped their mother and father with their eldest brother because the family was very important to them. This responsibility taught him from a very young age that a lot of situations require patience and understanding to truly resolve undesirable circumstances.

Jarrod started his martial arts career at his local Police Athletic League where he learned boxing from trained coaches from childhood all the way up until his young adulthood. Throughout that time, and always having a natural affinity for instruction, he taught swimming and self-defense lessons at his local YMCA, to kids and adults with and without disabilities. Jarrod then began training in Muay Thai for over 7 years and Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 2 years.

Mikhail
Muay Thai master

Mikhail is a Muay Thai master and longtime martial arts practitioner and couch. He has practiced and mastered the art of Muay Thai and boxing over a 15 year timespan but has also studied other martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do, Dutch Kickboxing and Kyokushin Karate.

A long time student of the game, Mikhail attributes all that he knows to his own coaches and teachers throughout his life and because of that understands the importance of what good coaching will do. In his own words martial arts is as much about teaching as it is about practicing, and being able to pass on that knowledge is one of the best parts. As a coach and trainer for 8 years now, he has taught both the very young and very old and everywhere in between. Certified by the National Association of Sports Medicine(NASM), Mikhail has experience with all types of students and is patient and welcoming to everyone.
